We’re looking for a contract or freelance Fractional CTO (FCTO) to work with us on a project-by-project basis, helping our clients achieve their technology goals while contributing to our reputation for excellence.

Position Overview:

As a Fractional CTO with Valerian, you’ll work as an independent contractor or freelancer, partnering with us on specific client engagements. This role is perfect for seasoned technology leaders who love diving into challenges, delivering impactful solutions, and making a difference without the commitment of a full-time role.

You’ll be responsible for providing strategic technology advice, hands-on technical guidance, and practical solutions to help our clients succeed. At the same time, you’ll collaborate with our team to ensure every project runs smoothly and exceeds expectations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Client Engagement:

• Act as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their unique challenges and goals to design tailored technology strategies.
• Build strong relationships and deliver results that create long-term value for our clients.

Technical Leadership:

• Provide strategic oversight and hands-on technical support for client projects.
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of technology solutions that align with client objectives.
• Troubleshoot and solve complex technical issues as needed.

Project-Based Collaboration:

• Work closely with the Valerian team to scope, plan, and execute projects within agreed timelines and budgets.
• Adapt to a variety of industries and technologies, tailoring your approach to fit the specific needs of each engagement.

Tech Innovation:

• Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and technologies, incorporating them into client projects where applicable.
• Recommend forward-thinking solutions that help clients stay competitive and future-ready.

What You Bring:

• Extensive experience as a CTO, Fractional CTO, or senior technology leader, ideally with exposure to consulting or professional services environments.
• Proven ability to work independently on a contract or freelance basis, managing your own schedule and deliverables.
• Deep technical expertise across multiple stacks and programming languages, with a track record of successful project execution.
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A collaborative, results-driven mindset that ensures you deliver value on every project.

The Basics:

• Minimum of 10 years in senior technology roles, with at least 15 years in the tech industry.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a client-facing capacity.
• Comfortable working on a flexible, project-based schedule as an independent contractor or freelancer.
